People ask me all of the time, which form of journalism I prefer and want to pursue. And to people's shock, I say that I want to dip my toe into as many forms of journalism as possible. Whether it’s through newspapers, television, or podcasts, there are so many ways people receive their news. At the same time, there are multiple ways one can tell a story. In our class discussions, we spoke about ways we can stand out as journalists in the field because the way we tell stories is constantly changing and becoming more innovative.

This semester, I’m tasked to use an IPad mini to take photos and create multimedia packages that will be posted on Ithaca Week. At first, I was a little concerned because I’ve only ever briefly used an IPad to edit a video on iMovie and now it will be the main tool that I’ll be using this semester to tell the stories of many people in Ithaca.

While my journalism career started in print, I’ve taken multiple opportunities to learn more about different forms of journalism, like photo and broadcast journalism. Each form of journalism has something that makes it special and I think journalists should have some understanding of how each form of journalism works so that they expand their knowledge and adapt to any situation.

Overall, as journalists, we need to be able to quickly adapt to the ever-changing market and find ways to keep people engaged. What ways do you receive your news? How can journalists adapt to the changes in the market?
